Overlap or Spigot?

What is the best ferrule? Overlap (like on my Vision rod) where the topmost sections fit over the lower?  Or a spigot,( like on the old Daiwa whiskers) where there is a solid piece fitted to the lower sections  and the upper sections fit over them. I think I have the terminology right here.  I guess by ?best?  I mean durability, likelihood of breakage, how it determines rod action etc.
