I bought the Aquatex3/4 jacket and troosers back in may. First class, highly recommended.

I am thinking about the Aquatex breathable waders too so if anyone has them, I'd like to hear your thoughts on them.
Ah.... 'The Take'

Just a thought?? but mountaineering / hill-walking  gear moved away from heavier  single garments years ago and now adopts a more ?layered? approach. For example, the waterproof  would be quite thin and  of Gortex,  worn over the top  thermal vests, fleece jackets etc. The very antithesis of Barbour. This is the approach I tend to use now for fishing gear. Not terribly sexy though I must admit. In fact I have heard comments  like scruffy and b@stard being used about me, but hell, I am thick skinned enough to ignore it.

I'm with Fred here. I've just got back from 4 days at Ardnamurhcan. I didn't fish, but I had my Touchstone Designs jacket with me as a general out door coat. It's great for a day out, but after a few days in a tent, suffering frequent rain, the outer fabric has soaked up water, as has the lining. It's now drying in the conservatory, a heavy, wet, cold rag.
On the way home I decided that a dark green single skin goretex coat ,with whatever undergarments suit the weather, would be best for a long trip. Such a coat can nearly be shaken dry.
Trouble is I haven't got the cash for said goretex device. Oh well........

If you aren't fussy about the colour and you don't mind a short jacket, have a look at this one. It rolls up and packs away in it's own stuff sack and is about 8" long and 3" diameter so takes up no room, I even have my water proof trousers in it too :) It is the one I use and hasn't let me down yet :)

This is a picture of me in it.

Or there is this one which looks a little longer and comes in olive, can't say how good it is though.

I wear this one with a light fleece underneath in the summer and a heavy windstopper fleece in the cold and it keeps me dry, but as you say all jackets will make you sweat. I use two lightweight fleeces under it sometimes which seems to be better at keeping you dry as the sweat forms on the outside of the outside fleece and the heat from your body dries the inside one. I find the condensation worse when in wet warm weather and on my bear arms inside the sleeves, I tend to keep my sleeves pulled up. All waterproof jackets make you sweat no matter how much you pay for them :)

I don't usually buy expensive waterproofs as I will have to replace them at sometime and the less they cost the less it costs to replace. I have just replaced my waterproof trousers after 10+ years. When I bought them they were ?7.99 they are now up to ?29.95 but still a great buy. You can see them here at the bottom of the page the "Dales Overtrousers". You have to phone the sales team to order them as they aren't in the online shop.

That picture was taken by George when we stopped for a brewup on the side of An Teallach when we were on our way back from fishing Fisherfield.

I think it depends on how you wear them. With more than one wicking layer under them they are fine as the sweat moves to the outer layer and then gradually vents to the air through the breathable membrane. When I wear my waterproof trousers my craghopper trousers get damp but underneath my yeti Gaiters, which are Goretex, they are bone dry. I have always thought if it would be better to wear two pairs of waterproof trousers then all of my legs would be dry, or two single skinned waterproof jackets then all of me would be dry :)
