Hiya, the top 3 inches has been broken off my favorite rod - it is a slow actioned 2 piece  Greys GRX 8 foot 6 4/5 weight - I was thinking of trying to get a new tip from greys however it might run a bit pricey considering the rod only cost £60.

Am I right in thinking I could just bang a new tip ring on? If yes how would it affect the action - would I really notice?

I think you will notice a fair bit,it's down to how you present the fly that matters though. If you don't cast far,or maybe don't use dry flies,it may not matter.
I have repaired rods in the past,if the rod tip is hollow you can buy a bit of blank and splice it from the inside(this is how quiver tip rods are made for coarse fishing).

I don't think you'll notice a massive difference on a slow rod. It's broken anyway, so what is there to lose trying it?

For three inches I would have thought it would not make much of a difference.
Just buy a Hayfork tip ring & hot melt glue.
Having said that I have known a few women that would argue that three inches would make the world of a difference.
