Glad you got the boots sorted Fred and a good wee heads up for that Inverurie shop, I'll maybe pop in for a look on my trip through the town.

Ask for David Jamison. Nice guy, very knowledgeable. Craigdon (like everything here in Sheep-Shire ) is not cheap, but the shop is excellent. They have a private customer's car park round the back. The shop is  a few hundred yards along from Sloans, on the left, towards the town centre.

These Altberg boots are much in the same price range as Meindl, I think mine were £184. the company also make footwear for the military. I like the one piece upper construction on them - the tongue is not stitched on, rather part of the boot uppers.

I always liked the look of the Altberg boots.

A guy I worked with wore his old military ones at work and they were still going strong after four years of walking ten miles a day for five days on tarmac paths :)

These are the ones I got Sandy. 5 width fittings available which is remarkable.

My first pair of good boots, made in Italy, were the same construction as you describe, the tongue was all in one with the upper. They were double skin leather and it was like wearing slippers on the hill :)

Greaves Sports in Glasgow seem to be a supplier but not of the whole range according to their map of stockists.
