Id go with that, just don't tell the "dry fly expert" lol

I have tried that line it's damned good especially at short range,  if a tad expensive.

By "tad" I mean it costs about £25 more than it should.   :D

I was reading the advertising blurb on some new gelspun or maybe braid spinning line a while back and they claim that research suggests that fish can't see red hence they were selling a bright red line.
I read this just after i had painted the bottom of my boat blue thinking it would be a bit camouflaged but if blue is at the opposite side of the colour wheel to red...?

I reckon the reason orange lines catch fish goes something like  this.

Fish sees orange line  land beside it and thinks;

"I wonder what that is?". "It can't be a fishing line because no angler would  be daft enough to believe  they could cast that over me without me seeing it". "Well I guess that means that Peter Ross must be safe enough to eat and I am quite obviously in no immediate danger".

Red light doesn't start to disappear until the water is twenty or so feet deep unless it is dark peaty or dirty water. Most fish that have been tested can see in colour and can see red.

Looking at a fly line below water and looking up it will depend on how deep the water is and if there is reflected light from the bottom whether you will see the colour of it or not.

Sandy...in that case do u have any suggestions on what is the best colour to paint the bottom of a boat re camouflage?

Fishtales

Thinking about it.....no :)

Then again a fish is dark above and light below the same as some birds. It has to have a purpose. Perhaps animals and fish, i.e. predators, can't see white, who knows.

There is a catfish you can get for tropical fish tanks called the Upside Down Catfish. It is dark on its bottom and light on its back. There is also the false Upside Down catfish. One feeds on flakes and other edible items on the surface, the false one is a predator. Guess how to tell them apart?

My money is on light grey like the sky most days in scotland  :)
As for lines, most of the time it doesn't make much difference but on a few occasions a particular colour might give you an edge. Just commonsense example NZ  yellow line flying through the air is more noticeable than a grey one, in another situation being able to see the yellow line on the water might aid bite detection ? Both lines will catch fish but I also agree with the confidence theory.  I'm into grey lines just now but I've gone through a yellow faze  :roll:

Ps also had  a white faze after the yellow one think I started my fly fishing with straw and then green ... one thing in common all caught a few fish

All down to preference , I went through a faze of yellow lines years ago , now it's either white or as near as , Really don't think it makes too much of a difference . As long as your fishing and catching that's all that matters  [emoji106]

That's what I reckon and of course confidence in what you are using - that is the most important single thing. I sell lines in gey, white and sage green  to offer a choice.  The white sells as well as the other colors and #5 DTs outsell all other lines irrespective of colous.
