Yup, I kid you not. Just saw one being recommended in a fly tying video on carp flies.

Nonsense for gullible anglers with too much spare cash has reached a new height.  :8)

They actually work really well with nano silicon wax coated fluorocarbon tying thread.

Well I'll grant you that but only if they have aerospace grade spring carbon steel adjustable tension arms and precision ground tapered ceramic guides.

That only works if you have small, thin and well moisturised fingers and hands to alleviate the risk of snags on loose skin. Unless this is addressed first then the expense is nullified by the ensuing aggravation.
Don't worry, be happy.

With all these sub 3-4 minute patterns you are knocking out at the moment I would have thought something like that would have been right up your street Fred ? Well that and someone with a bucket of water to pour over it when it starts 'smoking' !

No, my current bobbin holder is one of the older models with drum bakes.

at least they seem quite reasonably priced, unlike this: http://www.petitjean.com/online/en/tying-tools/133-mp-tt-bobbin.html a mere snip ('scuse the pun) at £55 in the UK
I think you could get at least 3 or 4 with disk brakes for that?

To be fair Dave that one does look well balanced  and should remain stable at high tying speeds.
