Partridge Hooks - beware

Out on the local loch this morning - two good fish lost due to Partridge fins wire barbless hooks straightening. 

To be fair I have not had this issue with their Klinkhamer  fine wire hooks, but these barbless hooks appear to have some issues with tempering. They are as soft as shit.  They will be fine for run of the mill Scottish bandy fishing, but I'd be careful about using them on big fish waters.

Fulling Mill barbleess seem to be more reliable - never had this issue.  As it is I was not too bothered as the fish had most likely have been rainbows. Would be a bummer if it happened with big  wild fish though.

Which hooks were you using?

Have always liked the look of the SLD but felt the wire was a bit on the light side. Noticed recently that there is now an SLD2 which uses a heavier wire, more like the Fulling Mill ultimate dry hooks.

Their emerger hooks are as soft as sh@t! Straightened 2 in a row and never used them since.

I think some of their patterns are a bit short in the point and I also like a bit of an upward curve on the points too. I don't like hooks that bend in the vice.

Fred, that does look like quite thin wire. I believe these are more like the FM hooks:

These are the ones to avoid, in a sixteen the wire was so fine they just opened up when I hooked a fish. It was also rainbows fred so probably fish around the 2lb mark but surely they should be fit for that.

I have had big browns in NZ (4lb)  on Partridge Klinkhamer Extreme hooks - they are dead thin too but perhaps the tempering of the steel is different? I don't know, but it's interesting to read others have had similar issues
