For attaching the shock cord, fold it back on itself (around whetever you are attaching) forming a loop and instead of a crimp use a decent sized plastic cable tie (the type that "zips" closed when you pull the end through and wont open again, like are used to keep wheel trims on). Pull it tight and it'll hold the cord really tight. Easy to snip off and replace if you need to change the item as well.
