Title: The Gigantic Book of Fishing Stories
Post by: Inchlaggan on May 18, 2009, 05:31:27 PM
I am very reluctant to reccommend books or restaurants. It seems that those who follow my hints are regularly disappointed- but having just re-read some of the 100+ short stories in this 800 page tome I am going to stick my neck out.
Available variously (including Amazon) for under ?20- 20p a story seems a bargain. I will admit that it covers much other than fly-fishing for trout but it remains true to the ethos of this forum. There are quite a number of American authors represented, along with Walton, Kingsley, Wulff, Plunkett-Greene, Buchan and Skues.
If you can read "Fishing Jimmy" without a tear coming to your eye, or "The River God" without fondly remembering the influences on your early fishing, this book will be a waste of cash.
To me, for these two stories alone, it was worth every penny.
