Title: Marmot
Post by: Traditionalist on October 25, 2011, 10:35:59 PM
Marmots are large ground squirrels. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmot)) The woodchuck of North America is also a species of Marmot. Not widely used outside America, but very very useful. Good for fur hackles, dubbing etc, There are quite a few American patterns now extant using Woodchuck. All these small mammals can provide very useful fur. I was told that this piece of fur came from an Olympic Marmot;

but I am fairly sure that is is fact from a common Woodchuck. Unfortunately I donĀ“t have a whole woodchuck skin to compare.These may be bought from various traders in America.

It is very useful indeed for a number of things.
