Where have all the wrens gone?

A couple of us were bird watching in a back garden today (green woodpeckers in Harthill!) and the same thought struck both of us.  Neither of us could recall seeing a wren this year.  Did last winter almost wipe them out?

Plenty about round here, and the weather was even colder than Harthill!
'til a voice as bad as conscience,
rang interminable changes,
on an everlasting whisper,
day and night repeated so-
"Something hidden, go and find it,
Go and look beyond the ranges,
Something lost beyond the ranges,
Lost and waiting for you,
Go."

Fishtales

Still have two dodging about here, one in the front garden and one at the back. I've also heard the two residents behind my caravan, haven't seen them though.
Don't worry, be happy.

Carried it in full, then carry it out empty.

There were reports late spring of fatalities for wrens in areas of severe sustained winter cold. I missed their calls from many riverbanks this season with the exception of one in Moray, no idea why one river in particular ( and in an area hard hit during the snowfalls last winter) should have wrens present where others have suffered.
