Yeti Attack, if you can get them :)

Covers the whole boot not just the top.

I've been wearing them for 25 years or so. I have two pairs, the original pair for a size 8 boot and a set for my size 9 Zamberlains, the boot is small fitting inside but a size 9 outside :) The originals are still in good condition even after all this time. There is a strap that goes across the sole that fitted into a groove in the Asolo Attack sole which is no longer made. Second hand ones will probably have this removed and the toe will slip up over the toe of the boot. The one on the new set I have wore through and I cut it off. Now I run a layer of Bostic along the inside of the rubber rand of the gaiter and another on the front of the toe which sticks it down and it stays over the toe. I only remove them from the boots if I am going to clean and waterproof them, usually once a year.

I use SnoSeal.

Expensive but I am still using the same jar I bought fifteen years ago :)

What I have seen of them they are heavier and made from thicker Gortex. They didn't feel as supple as the Wilderness ones though. I didn't like them when I looked at them.

Yes, the extreme are three layer goretex and provide more insulation and seem to be more suited to Winter / above snow line according various articles, so will probably hang out for attack version as per your advice.

I know that what Sandy recommends are just about as good as you get but I go for an in-between solution as I don't wear gaiters all the time. What I currently use are these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VENTILE-GAITER-MADE-IN-UK-BUSHCRAFT-HUNTING-STALKING-/250863881614?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Sports_Clothing_LE&hash=item3a68a70d8e (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VENTILE-GAITER-MADE-IN-UK-BUSHCRAFT-HUNTING-STALKING-/250863881614?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Sports_Clothing_LE&hash=item3a68a70d8e)

They are very breathable and while not completely waterproof they are pretty close.

Mainly only use gaitors for keeping snow out of my boots, front opening, cheaper the better.

The Yeti's aren't made for taking off and on so if you want them only for occasional use then the other ones being recommended are the way to go. I just can't be bothered taking gaiters on and off as I need them. The Yetis also protect the toe of the boot from knocks, scrapes and the proofing wearing off over an extended trip due to rough grass, heather, peat and water. They also help to keep dry feet during river crossings :)
