I've got two of the Magnitudes Alan. Good reels and a really good easily adjustable drag on them. Mine mysteriously went on to silent running (no click from the drag) but that is nothing.

If you decide to go for them, take your rod along. I had to file down the reel foot to get them to fit my reel fitting.

Thanks for the info. As always good, sound advice which just make things worse.  :?

looking at the reels suggested I did some more research and found this.
http://www.yga.yorks.com/acatalog/COBRA_LARGE_ARBOR_MULTIPLIER_FLY_REEL.html

Since I play most of my fish without using the reel, not needed for fish under 1/2 lb!  , I think the multiplier part is little more than a gimmick. However the rest of the package is interesting.

I repeat I don't actually need a reel, but since I am looking..... :whistle2

And while I am here, what backing do you all use?

Quotewhat backing do you all use?

A couple of years ago, I changed to braided Dyneema. It is really thin and strong. It can cut through weed like a cheesewire. It isn't perfect though and if it is under heavy strain a sharp rock could be its undoing. It hasn't happened yet, but it could.
For that reason I'm going back to using mono around 14lb b.s.
