Cheers for the advice guys.

I suppose it's all to do with ability and experience but also the weather on the day. I've been out on Loch Assynt and Loch Sheelin when the waves got a little bit sphincter tightening, wouldn't even bother going out in a boat let alone a kayak when it's that bad!

The course I'm thinking of doing is run by Leeds City Council on a local tarn, not exactly the same conditions as a loch but it'll give me the confidence to get out and get paddling.

Plus if I stick to the margins I won't have far to swim when I roll it over!
