Isn't this going backwards? I seem to remember when carbon fibre was first used in rods it was combined with fibreglass to strengthen them and to make the rods lighter.
Don't worry, be happy.

Right, I remember them now Sandy. No idea if they are hybrid though, I'd doubt it. That said nothing is new.  :)

QuoteAnyone heard of or tried these? I'm tempted to buy one to see what they are like

You had a pre-season clear out Fred or just some rods need a few to cuddle into over the cold months ....have you hit the 50 mark yet

I can't say I had heard of these, but I haven't looked for it. Seems like they would be a halfway house between the two materials, but this may depend on the construction of the blank and how the load is distributed between the various materials.

From speaking to people about the glass rods, the driver is people's tastes changing to slower actioned rods that are also more forgiving when fighting larger or more powerful fish. Listening to Sandy Nielson's episode of Fly Culture Podcast, it seems his preference has progressed more over time into more traditional or slower actions over time as he tried various blanks. These Hybrid rods could provide a stepping stone for people transitioning from fast carbon blanks to glass rods.

If you like your new glass rod Fred, this hybrid glass/carbon rod could be a step backwards.
