Bibio, your pal is right. The Jingler is not a new pattern at all. It was discussed in this section of the forum back in January 2013 [ 21st to be precise ] in a thread started by Malcolm Prescott, entitled " They Represent Nothing Really ". He even included a demo film on tying an Olive Jingler.
I tied a number after watching that. They sit beside me as I write.

I have always liked two hackled patterns & this one is no exception,  the Jingler is one of these "found again" flies that really have never been lost just forgotten. By my reckoning it is probably a old Tweed (Border Fly) that suggests a March Brown. Though a hackled fly it was primarily fished as a dry.
Sandfly who once posted on here introduced it to me "again" some time back & is a good pattern to have in ones Springtime selection. Fishes well on the Clyde  in Spring time. Vary the body colour & it is a passable Olive imitation.
