In the last ten days or so i have heard blackies singing early morning and at night, also seen lots of other birds like pigeons and doves and rooks, finches, and more seem to be pairing up, is this unusual for the time of year, or is spring arriving early? :P

Don't think we've really had a winter yet never mind spring. It'll probably turn up about the middle of march and run on into Jul.

Fishtales

Nothing unusual in that. It happens after the winter solstice and the day gets longer. Next will be the Jackdaws checking out the chimneys for nesting sites and the Magpies collecting sticks and building nests.
Don't worry, be happy.

I was out on the beach at St Cyrus today and it was anything but springlike.    :D

-5°C here yesterday, 8°C today.
Was out walking the dog this morning and saw a flock of 50-60 curlews wintering in the fields so they at least know it SHOULD still be winter.
