One of my laptops is running internet very slowly or not at all, think the problem started when AVG safe search installed its self, but not sure, laptop also needs a new battery? So as MS came out top choice maybe time to swap, though this may not be the main problem.
I can only see windows defender ? Running windows Vista

Go look for Microsoft Security Essentials, it runs on Vista.

Also, add and run Malwarebytes, the free version has to be run manually but it is the dog's.

'til a voice as bad as conscience,
rang interminable changes,
on an everlasting whisper,
day and night repeated so-
"Something hidden, go and find it,
Go and look beyond the ranges,
Something lost beyond the ranges,
Lost and waiting for you,
Go."

It can be difficult to remove AVG.

Get MSE for Vista here;

Lots of things can slow down internet connections etc.  Although AV programs are a prime cause, viruses, trojans and other malware can also do it, as can a few poor programs.

Hi Mike
It was difficult to remove and I still dont think I've got it completely !
My main problem just now is that I cant stream radio without it dropping out, my netbook streams ok ?

Fishtales

Funny how some systems can be like that. I cleared AVG out of my XP and Vista machines without any bother.

Check the buffer level on the player of the system that is dropping out it might be too low.
Don't worry, be happy.
Sandy
Carried it in full, then carry it out empty.

The standard uninstall doesn't work on many systems, you need to use this;

http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities

that should remove it completely.

The only way to be absolutely certain is to clean out the registry manually, but I don't advise you trying that. It is just too complex and fraught with potential problems for a non-technician.

It is normal for various radio streams to drop out now and again.  It depends on how you are connected, what providers you are using, what programs you are running, the streaming software, ( buffer size),  and on the stream itself. Some radio streams, and also some providers, will cause a drop on purpose to prevent you recording stuff.  There are also other possibilities. I don't know enough about your particular setup to give you sensible advice.

Could you stream it without dropping before you did the modifications re AVG ?

It is common for AV programs to be difficult to remove, hence things like this;

If you can not get it set up as you want, then you can use this;

http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

send me an e-mail with the code you are given, and I will set it up for you.

By the way, you have to remove the AVG software BEFORE you install MSE.  Unplug the machine from the internet while you are doing it.
