Heron. (Ardea cinerea 36") mainly used for the herl from the primaries. Use goose primary herl dyed blue dun, or any similar herl.

One may also substitute touch dubbed thread. Heron hackles were also used extensively on Spey hackled salmon flies.There are a large number of feathers from this bird which may be used, but as it is protected, no further reference is given. Substitutes depend on what the original feather was!
