Have been doing some experiments to try to prevent leader twist when using these Chernobyl ants.
A tail of polyyarn tied in at the rear tie-down point seems to help to prevent twist and the fly lands right way up most of the time.
The second photo show that the sighting tag and (most of) the tail can?t be seen from below.

Good idea Fred with the rear stabiliser. I tied some right ugly things tonight, but then most of my flies end up like that

Black flexifloss. It's a great material, very versatile and makes very realistic bodies on duns etc. I'm not sure what it's made of but it looks and feels very rubbery
Nice ant Fred, didn't know they grew that big up north

That reminds me,. I must buy some Startrek Voyager DVDs :D
Before you guys hijack the the thread with your fantasies what size of hook do you tie them on Fred? Have ordered some foam and legs and intend tying some this week.
shanksi
I have been using size 10 long shanks, which makes one mighty fly, but Alex has tied them much bigger
Thanks Fred. that Alex always got to be bigger than everyone else. :D

Definitely :(
Actually, don't use much bigger hooks than about a long shank 8. I do tie the flies big on the hook though, with an abdomen extending beyond the bend. Maybe it's the girth that makes mine look so big
