Varnishing heads

At Milngavie Fly Dressers this week the guest fly dresser was a a decent guy called Pat who has a company called Fly Tek. The flies were very simple indeed but effective looking for all that. One of the things he did struck me as very useful. I have seen the technique before nearly 30 years ago but had forgotten it. Here it is:

After you have finished your head but before the whip finish smear varnish on the last half inch of thread then whip finish as usual - saves varnishing the head and is much easier and neater.
