Anyone ever kept and bred Rams?

burnie

Do you mean sheep shaggers?....................... 8)

I did. They weren't as hardy as they are now at the time and I had to keep a close watch on PH and hardness. Lovely, reasonably peaceful, fish. All my fish have been in community tanks except the Blue Acara so didn't set out to breed any of them they just did :)

Yes. Go with a black water tank and add some dither fish such as tetras. Maybe a pair of bridtlenosed cats or small shoal of Corys etc.

It should look good.

You might also like Apistogramma species too if you're into South American dwarf species.

Wildfisher

They certainly look like interesting fish and are stunning to look at  :)

If it's small cichlids with interesting behaviour you're after also consider shell dwellers from Lake Tanganyika.

They're not as colourful as Apistos but are interesting to keep. Just ensure you can give them hard, alkaline water and the shells they need in order to breed.

The only Tanganyika cichlid I have had was the fairy cichlid  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neolamprologus
an interesting fish. A tad aggressive when paired up  but small and not hard to breed.

I found this rather fine video on rams. Long but worth a watch.

I don't think I have ever seen my tanks that clean, except just after they have been set up :)
