This is neat.

I  use the plugin ones and they work a treat but if I was doing it again I would get a couple of these. Only downside is you loose a three pin socket of the one replaced. Re-wiring a house or a new build these would be ideal, putting one in every room especially next to a smart tv or out in the shed even :)

Guddler

I have been looking at the BT version of this for the shed I'm turning into a sort of "Gentleman's Retreat".
Means I can look at Step by Steps and Youtube videos at my fly tying bench there!  :)

One thing to note on these is that they are quite a lot slower than normal Ethernet cabling. I suspect in practice they're actually pretty good, and if you can't rewire will work well.

But if you are rewiring anyway, then you'd be a lot better of using the standard Ethernet.

Mmmmmmmmm! Tried to keep my mouth shut but it didn't work :)

Virgin Media coming into house......................60 Mbs soon going up to 100 Mbs

Wi-Fi from my laptop.......................................300 Mbs (the new a/c standard takes it to 1,300 Mbs)

Power Ethernet Plugs....................................200 Mbs (mine they now go up to 1 Gbs)

Ethernet card in main computer and laptop....1 Gbs

The only thing that would be slow is transferring files across the home network but even at that I hardly notice. I can sit outside and stream pictures and videos from the laptop to the main computer and vice versa, stream videos from the internet using both the Power Plugs and Wi-Fi and work on videos across the network. The one downside with the power Plugs is that some electronic equipment can cause dropped packets if it is used on the same circuit, I haven't noticed this though.

I agree though if you are re-wiring the house then put in the ethernet cables at the same time as the electrics and don't forget the tv too, an aerial socket in every room makes life so much easier :) If you can afford it get double shielded ethernet cable as it gives better shielding.
