Title: A first for me
Post by: Fishtales on May 30, 2015, 11:36:57 PM
Found this wandering about the path yesterday. I had never seen one before so had no idea what it was other than it being a clear wing moth. Finally found it using my books and Google.

Ruby Tiger Moth (Phragmatobia Fuliginosa)

The underneath. It is still alive although comatose due to the cold.

They are supposed to be widespread across the country in just about every habitat and yet everybody that has viewed the images has never seen one :)

Think of all the red dry patterns that catch fish, might be these are the reason.
