Title: Jungle Cock
Post by: Fishtales on May 13, 2023, 12:14:35 PM
Looking through some archived photos I came across these. Imitation Jungle Cock Eyes. I used a couple and then forgot about them so they must still be knocking about amongst my fly tying stuff :)

Are they plastic like most of the current ones or are they dyed feathers, they look nice, I have a small piece of the real stuff, but rather low grade, I tend to only use them on Salmon flies these days.

They are plastic. They come in sheets and you pop them out.

They aren't really as good as they look, I think that was why I stopped using them :)

When I was a member of the Brechin AC one of the Salmon fishers would only use flies with jungle cock on them, he thought they gave the fish a target. Not too sure about his theory, but he did catch more Salmon than I did.

Under UV spectrum the feather white area is a target, but modern UV reflective materials can achieve the same function as occurs naturally with Jungle cock.

These are ancient, probably 30/40 years old :)
