Due to my advancing years, I have a job getting my leg over, now now, watch it, I know what you are all thinking but in fact I am talking about getting them over the side of the boat and as most of my fishing is done from a boat it's quite important. I have up until now worn ordinary waterproof fishing trousers and wellies. However I bought a new pair of wellies last year and they weigh a ton, at least they do on me and it can be quite an effort and slightly dangerous sometimes. So I've been thinking that a pair of waist waders with stocking feet and lightweight footwear might be the answer. Anyone else have this problem and how did you solve it, or has old age caught up with me at long last and telling me to stay on the bank.
Member borderbob wore them with walking sandals for fishing in the hills at one time.
When using my little packraft I need boots without studs and for exactly your purpose I picked up a pair of walking shoes/trainers in the Go Outdoors sale. They are much lighter and less bulky than my proper wading boots - and several hundred pounds cheaper!
I normally wear size 9 boots but the pair I bought in Go are size 12 and fit perfectly over my stockingfoot waders. Also, they seem to grip on wet rocks just as well as my studded boots. Not sure how long they will last but no problems so far.
That's a great idea, a pair of trainers sounds good, after all they don't need to be waterproof just a bit bigger than normal. I did wonder about these things you see folk wearing I think they are called Crocs they are full of holes so they would drain easily. Now to find a pair of reasonably priced waist waders.

Not crocs. They have no grip on wet stones. Don't ask me how I know :(
