Title: Fishing Shirts
Post by: Wildfisher on April 20, 2020, 09:10:44 AM
Can anyone recommend a good fishing shirt?

What I'm looking for is:

Cool to wear
Quick drying (so cotton is out)
Lots of pockets

These are what I use in warmer weather. Very happy with them and they last well.

The craghopper nosilife shirts are good.

Such as

Also got long sleeved versions.

They are permanently insect repellent allegedly.

The pockets might be a bit on the small side though that's the only thing.

I've been wearing the Paramo Trail Shirts for almost all of my fishing, they are the best shirt ever made, but as far as I know they've stopped making them plus they might be a bit warm for you. For warm weather I wear one of the "anti-insect" shirts by Rohan

https://www.rohan.co.uk/mens-travel-and-outdoor-shirts-expedition-shirt?ocode=05327299&cr=MensShirts

I'd guess all these shirts are pretty much the same when it comes down to it but I've no complaints about the Rohan. They change their range every few months so mine is a few years old and probably not precisely the same as the ones they stock now but the big zipped pocket is good.

I used to have one of these Craghopper bug repellent shirts it was great. Didn't know you could still get them!

My brother uses these shirts and is happy with them. Debenhams had masses of Craghopper stuff at big discounts (I bought some items at 75% off). Might be worth a look if/when they reopen.

Columbia PFG shirts are the way to go. having said that I bought a Craghopper shirt in Go Outdoors recently & it is on a par with the Columbia & cheaper. Ex Officio is another good make but hard to get in the UK. I bought mine in the USA
My three Columbia I have had for a few years now & they still look & wear good.

Tight Lines

Not the PFG but very similar & on sale at moment.

Bit off subject but for me Craghopper Kiwi trousers are excellent so much so all my fishing /hiking trousers are these now.
Rohan are good too but a tad expensive for my liking

If you have not bought yet, you might be interested in this test from a US outdoor magazine. Not too sure about the colour in the test though!

I bought one of these from go outdoors last year. Not used it in anger yet but very comfortable for general walking.

I had one of the crag hopper anti bite shirts issued to me last year. Didn't make an ounce of difference with the midges but it's a comfortable shirt in the heat.

A late addition to the competition!
Last week I found tucked away from my wife a new Paramo shirt I bought last year in the end-of-season sales. I have now worn it on my daily walks in hot sun and cold east winds and I am very impressed with it. Basically, it does what it promises; wind proof and excellent at wicking sweat away.

This is the short sleeve version the long sleeve has little cord tabs you can turn up the sleeve too make it short sleeve. Not clear but there are 4 pockets on the front.
Remember if you do buy an American sourced shirt the sizes given are usually on the generous side

Tight LInes

Some great suggestions there chaps.   Keep them coming, no rush, don't think I'll be needing it for a while yet by the sound of things.
