I am off to Torridon on Friday!
Living in Perth its the best thing to do when the Game fair is in town. It is a good event but in general the traffic management is a disgrace and the whole town comes to a complete standstill.
Best approach is to don the chesties and wade across the Tay.

I'm fishing too. Never made it to a Game Fair yet.

I noticed Andrew Toft and James Tomlinson are doing the casting displays, which would be good to see. The forecast is pretty good with light winds and dry too, so it should go well on the day.

I am banned from the Scone Game Fair for attempting to disguise my collie as a spaniel. I got the colour spot on but forgot to cut her tail off. The fake Barbour jacket and the Che Guevara   t-shirt with "Raptors Rool Ye Bass" on the  back did not go down well either.

OK I admit it, like Alan and Alex I'm going fishing.  :D

Hope I'll bump into you and the dug Moray.

wee bri.........

That should be good for you Wee Bri, as Andrew Toft is doing a demo on single handed spey casting, as per your PM to me. Andrew is excellent. Naw, he's better than that.

I was phoning round today to see if anyone is off work on Friday but I may head up there whatever happens. I'm up in Sutherland this weekend so Friday is my only option.

Beard, bunnet, pipe, 6ft 2 and quite possibly in the company of a Norwegian Elkhound.

I hope to shoot the the breeze with whoever is there. Whether there is a bar or not I don't know but I will certainly give you a can of beer. Will it be cold enough for you Dave or does it matter?
It will be good seeing you again Brian and I will update you on the Casting Club.
Malcolm I am terrified of Dogs, think it goes back to going to discos in Methil. :D Be good to see you
It is half four I will nip up the River before work I am up anyway :)

I was amazed at just how precisely he sets his gear up. He pulled out an 18ft MacKenzie DTX at the CC one day and revealed he had put the line together himself to have a 95ft head weighing 52 grams. He then proceeded to cast over 150ft with a rod and reel combination he hadn't used before.

I am planning to be there Sunday. Can I admit to my own little bit of ignorance?

GAIA?

I know I should know but I come out in a seriously nasty looking rash when people start quoting acronyms.

Will visit the tent if I can figure out what and where.

I'm not sure either, but with it being a  game fair my guess would be  Gwouse Annihilation Instructors Association..   :D

So how did  the game fair go? Some guys were telling me that the "angler's row" had all but vanished by last year. Is it picking up again?  The actual fishing / tackle side of things I mean, not just casting demos.

I'm told the "River Don Day"  at Castle Forbes held over the past few years was a bit of a  damp squib, abandoned  this year and few tears shed over it. I sometimes think that these events would be better attended if they were held outside of the fishing season. Certainly many anglers I know would rather spend the  precious days of the open season at the waterside.

The Tay Ghillies day near Pitlochry, first week in August is worth a go if you are in area. Bit amateurish  in comparison to a full bloodied Game Fare but a few stalls selling new & second hand gear, flies & usual burger stands oh & the obligatory casting competition.

Fred, due to the weather I think it has been a very well attended Fair with everybody enjoying themselves.
I think fishing at this time of year is best suited to early morning late evening ,leaves the rest of the day for the fair.
We at the Gay Instructors tent have been run of our feet with barely enough time for a cup of tea.

brian, you were certainly very busy when i went past. everyone deep in conversation; hence no chance to say "Hi!" glad the show went well. we had a good day and from what i could see plenty of fisher-folk were in attendance. it was nice to see a receptive audience for the demos and comps. maybe see you in ullapool? :8)

I visited on Sunday. Arrived by 10:00 and left about 2:00. No traffic problems.

Brian. I assume you were the happy looking man with the tying vice in front?  I had intended leaving SWMBO in the craft tent and stopping to say hello but did not quite work out. To be honest you did not look that busy!!!!! Just relaxed, or was that anxious?

A good day, almost too hot. My car was reading 29C when I got back. Too hot for fishing.

Other than food, good venison burgers, and drink, Black Isle always on tap - and only £2.50 a pint, I did not spend money. I think if you knew you needed a new Orvis rod or something equally expensive there were some deals to be had. All I really need is some more fishing days.

Something very noticeable. Ever 2nd person had a dog!  Full range of sizes and varieties. I never heard a growl or a bark in anger, every dog just accepted the others. Also no dog crap.  Obviously the owners were all as well trained as the dogs.

A.

It's never too hot for fishing! I was out yesterday on Bitter Creek. Short line, elk hair caddis, pocket water, roasting hot got hunners!

It was great  to be out and not shivering for once!   :D

No Alan I wasn't the guy in the tent. I never got a minute to be honest in fact I never even got to go around the fair. Maybe next year I will get more time. Still it is what I choose to do,so no moaning.
