Title: Chinchilla
Post by: Traditionalist on October 25, 2011, 06:49:56 PM
Exclusively farmed fur is available from these animals. The two wild species are on the endangered list. The fur varies massively in colour and quality. From white to black, and every other colour! many of these animals are also kept as pets, and bred for various colours. The piece shown below is from a grey/brown mottled anmal, and is very useful indeed for a number of patterns. Especially useful for fur hackle wet flies. The mottling is an excellent imitation of many insect legs and wings. You will have to be lucky to find a piece like this.Any mottled fur like this you find, should be snapped up immediately, as it makes most excellent hackles, among other things.
