Fox fur from various parts of the English red fox, especially the ears, mask, neck, and various guard, and underfur, was used on a large number of patterns, also blended with other furs. It is not commonly used nowadays, possibly because of the difficulty in obtaining it.The skin in the picture is from a mature vixen ( female). This animal was shot by a hunter friend of mine here in Germany, but is the same animal common in the UK.

Arctic fox is now very popular for many things, makes good streamer and other wings, and is also used for dubbing.

There are many types of fox, and the fur varies widely, a few pieces of fur from various other foxes are shown below. They vary widely in quality, type and texture. They may all be used for various things but selecting the right one is imperative for specific functions.

As with many other furs, it may be used for tails, hackles and wings on many flies.
