Snowbee have brought out  new  mid priced rods about the ?120 range. They call them  the “Zr2”  range . There are some very interesting models, all 3 piece and come with a tube

I have ordered a 10 foot #5-6  and a 10 foot #3-4  for evaluation. The latter sounds especially  interesting. I’ll let you know how I get on with them.

i would be very interested to hear how they perform..

Hamish, it will depend on weather. I will get the rods this week, but it looks like we are in for the usual late February  / early March spell of arctic weather and perhaps snow up  to our dangly bits. Let’s play it by ear. Mind you we can always  try them out in my field if it is too cold  / frozen to do it on water, but Haddo would be better as Mike  has a load of different line weights we can play with and he is also keen to have a fling with them
