Do any of you chaps use cassette type reels for your fishing? I typically use a pretty limited range of lines for my wild Stillwater fishing, but still like to have floater, neutral and inter to hand. Until recently I used an old Greys cassette reel for this, but it's knackered now.......so I ordered up a CLS5000 as a replacement. Lovely reel but far bigger than I expected, so I'll probably use it to re home my seven weights, and maybe afterwards sell my beloved Ultegras!

So, I've still got to find a new home for my 5s and 6s. Anyone got any recommendations for a decent smaller cassette reel that isn't the size of a barrow wheel? I notice Greys are still doing this sort of thing but they look a bit cheap and tacky.......

I use the sonik sk3 reel it's lasted about a year swapping between floating and slow inter but the plastic cassettes are starting to mishape a little bit. Before this I use to just swap reels takes about the same amount of time but it's far less weight to carry a couple bit of plastic rather than bulky reels.

BFR Dragonfly 375. Outstanding value for money, tough and reliable. I have two in use and one in the smaller 355, they usually go for around £20 on ebay.

Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside.

Dragonfly LA Cartridge III is one I've used fairly regularly for the last 5 or 6 years - it's the reel I keep in the car with a rod and some other gear all season just in case the chance of a cast comes up unexpectedly:)

Never had any problems with it and it came with a case and about 5 or 6 colour coded spools. Although a BFR it seems to be a slightly different model from the one East Wind has. Think it cost about £40 when I bought it.

Leeda LC 60. I have the 80 and 100's. The 80 I use has been in use for ?fifteen/twenty? years at least with no problems.

They are light so it will depend on the length and weight of the rod you are using. I found the 100 too heavy on my 10' #7 rod which weighs 3.8oz, although I use the 80 all the time it is still slightly light for the rod but I am used to it :) I can't comment on the 60 as I haven't handled one.
Don't worry, be happy.

Carried it in full, then carry it out empty.

I had an LC about 20 years ago but it went missing when I fell away from fishing a bit in my 20's, I loved it, great reel

Me too, still have mine.....must have been around 1990 when I bought it and still going strong. Pretty indestructable

I have  a few BFR Modulas and never had any issues, nice simple design.

Thanks for replies. I used to have a Dragonfly jobbie years ago and agree it was dead reliable, although not the greatest for producing tightly coiled flylines over time.
As it happens, I've renovated my Greys GRX reel this weekend and got it running fine. Also, to my surprise I found it's still possible to obtain the G series cartridges...so I've collared a couple and should be back up to speed shortly.
