Whilst there are certain limits, you get to design the ultimate fly box and I will make it.
In wood (walnut, steamed beech, mahogany, lime or mixture thereof) foam lined, book form.
Pocket-sized all the way up to a giant A4 megalith.
The lid (bottom and sides if you wish) can be carved in a number of patterns- trout, osprey, thistle, lion rampant and a vast number of Celtic knots. Or design your own for engraving. Your name can be added, carved into the wood or engraved on a brass plate insert.
This will not be for taking out to the loch or river, this will be an hierloom piece to be kept in a glass case and thrown sugar at.
It will not be cheap, starting at £40, we will agree that in advance. You and all other forumites will get to watch the design and making progress in this thread.
There can be more than one.

The entire purchase price will be donated to the forum.

If there is an expressed interest, I will make a pocket box from lime and walnut, 120 x 180 x 30mm, for raffle or auction if someone will organise a fly-swap to fill it.

'til a voice as bad as conscience,
rang interminable changes,
on an everlasting whisper,
day and night repeated so-
"Something hidden, go and find it,
Go and look beyond the ranges,
Something lost beyond the ranges,
Lost and waiting for you,
Go."

Out of interest and apologies for derailing the thread very slightly but would you be able to make this out of the aforementioned wood...

It is a rod rack that takes tubes. I would be happy to pay the going rate in the form of a donation or to yourself or both.

Inchlaggan

No problem.
It would be for a donation to the forum.
I'd need the diameter of the tubes to start a quote.
I like a challenge!

A great initiative thanks Ken :)

What the Lion Rampant box lid would look like, The lion is about 6mm deep in walnut on a base of lime or steamed beech.

Great, so, I have around 10 tubes.  The largest of these has a diameter of 65mm.  The other tubes have diameters of 55mm and 45mm respectively.  Like the pic shown, they are able to mount 2 rods on each leg...would that be ok? 5 legs holding 2 tubes each would cover 10 rods.

Inchlaggan

No problem. Probably in mahogany (in stock).
List the sizes of all the tubes that you wish to mount and I can get on with the design and give you a quote.

Do you have anything in a lighter wood?  If not, let's go with mahogany.

I have 2 tubes at 45mm

4 at 55mm

4 at 65mm

They are all 4 piece rods between 9 and 10ft.

Cheers fella..

Yep, I can do lime, which is almost white. I can stain it, I just happen to think that is cheating, but these days so few woods are available it can be the only route to getting the finish you want.
We can work it out!

I bought this and the matching bookcase for a home office....would it be possible to match that roughly? As I said though I'd be happy to go with whatever you think...
