Alex and I have rented a house here for 10 days. The variety of fishing is astonishing as well as the mind bowing scenery.  8)

Who calls anywhere Twizel? Did they name it after a character in a NZ kids tv show?

I think you've made a big mistake, I mean does this place really exist at all?

Now, now, there is a reason for everything :)

'the word comes from 'twizla', meaning fork of a river'

Named after the Twizel River. The river was named by J.T. Thomson after Twizel Bridge in Northumberland, where the English army crossed the Tweed before the Battle of Flodden in 1518. the word comes from 'twizla', meaning fork of a river.

Yes, Lake Benmore, Lake Aviemore, Ohau, Pukaki,  as well as a  lot of smaller ones. All stuffed with rainbows and browns. It's also where the canals with the monster trout are.

The entire wider area takes its name from a sheep rustler by the name of Mackenzie

They were a bad lot those  Mackenzies   ;D

I reckon this will likely be our - certainly my  - last trip. The travelling is pretty awful, we are not getting any younger and the health and fitness is not what it was! It's also very expensive now with large post-covid price hikes. Still, can't complain, this will be my 7th trip to a country I  could not have imagined visiting at all 25 years ago.

EVERYONE should go fishing abroad a few times just to calibrate their perspective on fishing at home.

Can't see me making another long trip like this, but I would like to go back to Spain to fly fish for carp and barbel. It's only a few short hours on the plane from Embra! Rural Spain is very nice.
