I had been following the track of the young Osprey from Garten as they migrate south to Africa http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/tracking/lochgartenospreys/index.asp on Google Earth. I had forgotten I had it installed on the computer so I had a look around the program. I came across a bit that said if you dragged a .gpx file into the program it would lay out the track on the map. I tried it with my Moidart file from May. Quite impressive.

Very impressive Sandy.  Does anyone else find that Google Earth is a few years out of date?  When I check my street a large tree is still shown in the garden next door but this was cut down at least four years ago.

ive tried the free version  and it always crashes my laptop-------old laptop now right enough,,,its over 3 yr old ----so i dont fancy paying for an up to date google ----i find flash earth ok  for what i need

The latest one is 4.3 and works fine here, as did the one before it. It is free as far as I know and you only have to pay to get extras, like downloading tracks direct from the GPS. As you can drag a track from the computer into Google Maps and it displays I don't see the point :)

The pictures says Feb 2002 for the Glasgow area. Look at the info bar at the bottom of the page.

Thanks Sandy, never noticed it.

That's pretty nifty Sandy. I like how it shows the actual gradient on that slog and a half out of the Glen up to Loch Nam Paitean.
