Round here we traditionally save our well wishing until after the bells.

I'll be in my bed by then.

I'm with Fachan on this one, considered very bad form to give the seasonal greeting before the year is in.
Exceptions are for those whom you will not be in contact with over the coming days, but even that has the addition of "when it comes".

I have to agree with guest and inchlaggan, but then again I have just wished a happy new year to a friend, but he lives in New Zealand :)

One thing is for sure- the forum will continue in fine form as even when wishing the same amongst ourselves we manage to end up debating the colour of shite!

Aye and as long as we can do it with a smile on our faces and love in our hearts that will be enough to set us above inferior forums and perpetuate that general air of arrogant smugness that some reckon defines us.

We don't accept wookies? No wait, that can't be right... ;)

Er anyway, Happy New Year to all, and going back to the start of the thread, although not a Scot myself i've lived here my entire adult life and I like the tradition of no well-wishing until the bells. Obviously I found it a bit odd to begin with ("take yer hauns aff the whisky. It's no time yet!") but quickly got to like it a lot and used to annoy my old friends back in Brum where i'm originally from by trying to physically prevent them from drinking until the appointed hour. This was unsuccessful but amusing (they always seemed to find it despite what I thought was clever hiding).

Thank you Scotland, thank you WFF and here's to a good 2014 for all  :)
