Title: Chopping Wood
Post by: Wildfisher on November 17, 2006, 09:26:36 PM
This is a classic – can’t remember where I first saw it…………

"We spent all of our time chopping wood to keep the fire going so we could dry the clothes we got wet when chopping wood"

did you know, time  is natures way of stopping every thing happening at once!

That quote is frustrating me: Wasn't it Nakor the Islanian who said that? Or did Heinlein get there before Feist?

According to this it was Woody Allen :)

Time is nature's way of keeping everything from happening at once.
         — Woody Allen (1935 – ), actor

It is also down to Professor John Wheeler.

I now know it was Nakor the Islanian who was Raymond E Feist's crazy priest-like character in the Serpentwar (and later) series - obviously not the original however!

I wondered if he had nicked it from Robert A Heinlein as it reminded me of something he wrote which my brain hasn't yet tracked down....

Just Googled the phrase and it was also in Star Trek episode 118!

I googled these myself the other night and now know we are talking Sci-Fi, instead of the usual fish .

May the Gael force be with you

Malcolm - I had fogotten you were a Sci-Fi'er when we met on the Earn!

Your posts got me to thinking about fishing in Sci-Fi (the books - not the films), and the closest I can get is sandtrout in the Dune books.

Any others you've come across?
