I believe that Walrus was hunted in the Orkneys in Roman times (that Roman lad who documented his visit to Britian said so).  I've also read that the vikings followed the decreasing population of walrus across the Atlantic to Greenland and American as they hunted it for food.  It's about time they made a come back
