Cheap Accomodation

Been looking at possible places to stay as I plan this years wee jaunts. On a friends advice had a look at Air B&B website and after bringing the nightly price down to under £25 (you'll see what i mean if you look)  found loads of places all over the country that look good as fishing bases, including one on Loch Voil for £15 a night. I don't mind places being a bit homely and eccentric, fits in with fishing to my mind.

Its been a few years since I was there but the static caravans were pretty good and not expensive.

Also Loch Ossian Youth Hostel http://www.syha.org.uk/hostels-in-scotland/highlands/loch-ossian.aspx Loch right next to the hostel and loch Treig is not too far a walk. You can only get there by train to Corrour Station though.

As to Loch Trieg - if we take Bruce's comments on board it doesn't seem like a place one would want to fish. If I remember the quote in his book he talks about only trying it if you're an "angling masochist"

You might also want to consider bothies for trips away from the road-side since they are free (barring a very few). Can be quite good fun attempting to find them. The MBA maintain a lot and you can join them for a small fee & get information on MBA bothy locations. Non-MBA bothies are a different matter though. Although some people publish GR's on the net it's considered bad practice (for fairly good reasons) so people tend to learn of their locations by word-of-mouth. Oh and many are locked during the stag season too. Contacting the relevant estate will usually result in helpful information about closure dates.

Maybe Bruce is just trying to keep the crowds away MH I think he says similar about Glascarnoch - which I definitely agree with
