I came across this old Hardy Viscount 150 fly reel. Adjustable drag (barely), quick release spool and weighs a ton. Back in the 1960s this was cutting edge tech. and Hardy gear was prestigious to own.

It is dreadful. Fishing gear has come a long way! :D

Look like you got your money's worth out of that reel.

Certainly did Alan and it's still perfectly serviceable.  You do wonder if the modern gear will last that long.

Can you mind what you paid roughly for the reel back then compared to todays reels

Can't remember Colin but it had not been much as I had no money back then. What I do remember is I bought it in Tam Clark's shop in Arbroath, Tam and Bert were always good to me and I did get a huge bargain, probably old stock they had not shifted. I have fond memories of the Aladdin's Cave of a shop selling fishing gear, guns and bikes.  Absolutely tiny but it seemed huge back them. Long gone now a shop like that would never survive now.

Not many local tackle shops left now. Glasgow used to have a good half dozen + but I can only think of one now Tackle & Guns outwith GAC
Sadly a sign of the times.
