I read just the other day that a weight of 1 pound on your feet required the same effort as 5 pounds on your back. Anyone heard this or similar?
If it's true it makes you think about hill footwear!

Do a Google Fred. It has been around since 1953 and yes I have heard and read about it for the past forty odd years :)
Don't worry, be happy.

I've a couple of pairs of Sketchers. I don't even know that they're on  :)

Quite an old comparison but I'm not sure what the actually measured science is. Maybe treadmill effort measurements. Plenty light boots around now and folk using trainers on hills.

Yup, centrifugal force, the effort required to move the foot from back to front position, arcing around the hip.

I wear running shoes on the hills as much as possible, unless it's gonna be a really cold, boggy affair. (Galloways I'm looking at you.)

Me and my old walking pal were discussing this last time we were out. I bought a pair of Merrell MOABS and they made a big difference. Not so sure they will be much good in the wet though and certainly not in snow.
