Can't remember if I posted these. A visit and walk up to  the "Edoras" filming site from the LOTR movies

The river is the Rangitata, The Clyde flows in from the right. An amazing place. Knock out scenery but the katabatic winds are brutal. The rocky bluff on the left of the lower image is where the Edoras set was built.

Not seen the films but I was taken panning for gold here (Skipper's Canyon) and was told it was a set for LOTR. Fantastic scenery.

Quite how you would fly fish there is another thing altogether. The wind is constant, in the first photo the haze you can see above the braids of the Rangitata are dust storms. The river has browns, rainbows and king salmon as do the many spring creeks that feed it. It is a remarkable place.
