Well yesterday I checked out the ponds I had marked for a bit of coarse fishing and could not even see them far less get near them. I sent up the drone and it looks like the water lilies have made fishing impractical and will eventually join up. Time for a change of plan I think. If  try to fish there I'll never be seen again, sod that. ::)

When I was a lad it was open almost all the way round. It is slowly filling in and transforming into a swamp.

Open previously then waterplant colonised, then gradual organic build up, then to willow encroachment, then alders as taller shrubs dry the site some more, giving alder carr then alder/birch, then you can walk anywhere on site. Not too many decades from now. Rich and dynamic succession in action. 🙂

Fascinating to see and only possible for those of us who have been around for a while, yet even one lifespan is not enough to see it all.  :)
