Batteries never run out on a map !!  (I confess to being a map junky.)
Best source of discounted maps is probably  www.//dash4it.co.uk
These folks have all OS mapping plus Harveys plus virtually every other country.
Excellent service, usually between 25-30% off list prices and very often free delivery.

I have a a stack of OS maps I never use since I got Anquet Maps on the computer. I just print off a map of the area I am going to and laminate it.
Don't worry, be happy.

I hold all of Scotland at 1:50,000 and a lot at 1:25,000 all on my tablet's own memory as well as it's GPS - as well as having access to all OS online, but I am still rarely without the full OS map for which I also have every part of Scotland at a range of scales. A small bit printed off, like a page of A4, does not cover very much area and  Dash4it also have many, many other countries, and UK stuff from other makers than just OS. They are a very good map supplier.

Don't get me wrong, I love maps too and there is nothing like sitting looking at a map in all its glory, but for practical purposes the print out is all I need to take with me. One side is the area I will be concentrating on and the other side will be a larger scale showing the surrounding area, just in case :)

Thanks for the link Vaughn. I love maps too even old ones and can't resist purchasing them. There's an oxfam book shop on Byres Rd in Glasgow that usually has old maps .
I just ordered a map from the site. One of the new ones with the mobile download so looking forward to seeing how it works on the phone.

For old maps the Scottish National Library now has all its old mapping archives available on line.
Look for     maps.nls.uk

Like Sandy I have all the OS maps on computer and print out the bit i need.

Paper maps are better though, what I grew up with and give a wide overview that can't be matched on a computer screen
