Title: Long range weather forecast
Post by: Lochan_load on August 18, 2018, 01:17:13 PM
planning to do the ring of steall at glen Nevis next Saturday with a couple of mates and trying to keep an eye on the weather for it as we'd really like a decent day for it, because it's one we've all looked forward to would be a shame to do it in low cloud and drizzle. Wondering if anyone has a long range weather forecast they really rate. I use the accuweather app on my phone which I find not bad but is there anything better? Cheers in advance

The Norway, yes really, one is supposed to be really accurate but I can't remember the web address.

Found it https://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/Scotland/Ben_Nevis/long.html

Two forecast systems highly rated by climbers and canoists are XCWeather and YRWeather which Sandy mentions. I use XC as my standard set to a 3 hour presentation and it is good for wind direction and speed and gust speed, cloud cover and rainfall and so on. YR is also very good and sea canoe folk like it. I have both these on the phone and the following is the specific Met Office Mountains areas forecast site also worth using.

Another which is mountain specific which I should have included is MWIS which is also by location areas.

Then, in the winter, go to SAIS for avalanche warning info and on the ground day by day updates
