I Was thinking of maybe one swap for loch flies and the other for River flies,
I think that's a good idea. I'll do some river flies.
As past swaps have been very much over subscribed, and I guess that's the reason why we are having two this time, I'll stick with one swap only to give others the chance to grab a place in one of them.
If it's being split into loch or river does this mean traditional flies are to be tied to recognised recipes?
Stick me down for the river swap.
I'll probably tie a wee flexi-floss emerger.
cheers
Paul

It's a bit of an artificial distinction really - In both cases I'd just tie what I use without worrying too much about recognised patterns.
Steve put me doon for the loch swap
Err..... can i buy a set of 30p cheapies and swap with all you great tiers? :makefun I'm learning to tie flies this winter, first time tomorrow night! Watch out for the next one you lot :D
I'll try some Loch flies- "Peter Ross" anyone? (only joking).
Steve,
Put me down for the lochs section please - not sure what I'll tie yet though.
Cheers,
Ian
Loch flies for me please. Will decide tonight what fly to do.
Will do some river flees if you do not mind....
As Dutch stamps will hardly work in the UK, just do with my lot whatever suits best.
Cheers,
Hans

put your own flies in they are as likely to catch as any other.
Just about to move hoose so i'll pass on this one.
Steve - okey dokey, 15 Orange 'Cragach' Muddlers it is then.
Well done wildhibroon - pick something not too complicated and the practice of knocking up a bunch of a single pattern will see your tying coming on leaps and bounds. Get some proven fish-takers in return too.
Cheers,
Ian
I'll do some copper bodied spiders for the river swap - it will be an excuse not to do some DIY, not sure if it will earn me any brownie points though
Norm
Put me down for the river swap please Steve.
count me in for the river section, I'll tie some shuttlecock emergers.
Hi Steve put me down for river - I will do an emerger caddis
George
Steve
I'll take the plunge too  Please put me down for the river swap.
Cheers Pete
looks like the river swap is full first .......... are we as a forum drifting from loch to river? (excuse the pun) :D
Steve put me down for the loch fies. :D
I'm in for the loch flies please :)
Put me down for the Loch swap please, i will do some half hog hopper thing that i done well with on badanloch this year.
cheers, John
Will do another set of loch-flees as well....

He he :twisted: :biglaugh;
You can put me in for - and I quote (myself) "I'm in for the loch flies please"
Thanks Steve
I'm doing a size 14 brown wire nymph that has caught me some nice fish here and in New Zealand. I think it's Alex's pattern but it works anyway. :D
Hi Steve
Put me down for Loch Flies.

I have added myself to the 3rd swap.
what an odd fellow you are Steve........................
Hello,
Add me in Steve please. Some unconventional river sea trout flies from me.
Malcolm
i've been hoping the swaps would fill up and I wouldn't have to bother tying the pesky things :)
OK Steve, put me down for CDCless emergers in swap 3
Alex
15 Brown Wire Nymphs posted today - recorded delivery.
Looks like you have not seen my post Steve.
In the interests of getting it filled up count me in for swap 3.
Just letting you know that I am doing red headed zulus for the loch swap. Always a reliable fly IMO.
Here is my work in progress.....
Yeah, thought these Zulus looked just spot on.
Damn you all! Have you ANY idea how hard I'm trying to NOT take up tying flies?? :D :D :D
Well I can put the Zulus, back in the box then.
Have to think of something else for the loch swap.
Can the Loch swap boys tell me what they are tying, please?
Ta
Ken
here's what I am tying
Done some peeping caddis flees for the river,
will do Kate's for lochs if nobody's already doing these...
Cheers, Hans
Having looked at my book - Black Pennel seems to have been the best loch fly around here- so that is what you will get!
Flies posted today.

.....and easiest to tie
not the way I do 'em- one handed.
Flies nearly all done, will post them tomorrow...
Hope they make it past the thieves that stole my previous lot...
Cheers,
Hans
Whilst I wait for the flies I ordered to turn up in the post, I faked up this shot in Photoshop
The flies I did for this swap:
Kate McLaren and Peeping Caddis.
Cheers, Hans
Inchlaggan, satisfy my curiosity.... Why is you vice head upside-down?
I noticed that Jon Beer did the same thing one his telly program last year....

Comfort, I find it easier to use that way.

Comfort, I find it easier to use that way.
But your question made me ask myself why.
So I checked it out.
It is mechanics.
As the vice is clamped to the edge of the table, when I open the vice the forces are acting towards the table.
Were I to place it the other way up, I'd be pulling against the table clamp, loosening it, and damaging the table.
See, I can talk pish as well.....
While everyone else is at it.....

The Flies
Like the look of the others I've seen so far :D
Norm
Look nice Norm.
I've just finished tying up some little cdc "something and nothings", which did me well on the WoL
at the back end. Just got to get them in the post now.
They are Regal vices, I have one too.
These seem to be the new designs.
http://regalvise.com/index.php/Vises.php
This is the design I have only with the table clamp rather than the pedestal, solid brass :)

These flies look great. I better get a move on. I'm going through a mayfly phase so I'll tie some goslings for the 3rd swap.
Steve,
Orange Cragach Muddlers all tied up;
[attachimg=1]
Will do a few special bits and pieces for the auction and get them all off in the next week or so.
Cheers,
Ian
Those look amazing Crawhin. Worth joining in knowing I will get one of those. Fantastic!
No worries Clan - looking forward to this one as there are some real proven 'secret weapon' patterns tied by local experts going into all the swaps. All the flees looking good so far.
Cheers,
Ian
one for the river and the other for swap 3
Mine are on their way over.
Posted them by registered mail, so I am afraid you'll have to sign fir them Steve.
Hope this is nae prob.
Slainthe,
Hans
I'm going to keep my eyes on "the lot" for the forum donation..... Some nice looking flies seem to be included!
Long Black Pennels posted today.
Thanks for your work on out behalf.
Ken
This is what you are getting from me, it's never had a name until now but I think of it as my "Night Shrimp" so that'll be it's name unless someone else has already tied it!
This is a first class all round sea trout and salmon fly and has caught many tourists for me. The tag is luminous and on a slow night you can turn your torch on and watch the reaction as a dead pool will suddenly come to life - doesn't always work but it can work wonders. If I use a dropper when fishing for salmon or seatrout this is usually it. I also fish a leaded version as a seatrout bug. I only use about 6 salmon and sea trout patterns (not always the same 6 patterns every year) and this one has never been out of favour.
Dressing
Rear body luminous pink
Front Body Blue tinsel
both hackles very short orange (I use Genetic Saddle)

Bloody right, some mouthwatering flees that I'd love to chuck on a loch up here. Can't wait to see the selections for auction!
WHB
All my seatrout and salmon flies have inflated catch rates because I use so few - just like Sandy's "Hill loch nymph" will have an high catch rate because it's so often on his cast!
The fly evolved over two seasons in 1988/89 starting out as a worm fly variant but this one had something about it and caught a lot of fish for me and it's stayed more or less static for 20 years - the only change being the luminous material I use.
Malcolm
I have added a vid to the forum theatre of me tying a red headed zulu for the swap
Steve,
Could you also send me your address. misplaced it since last year. I am doing goslings for swap 3
paul
Could you PM me with your adress too please. As well as the zulus I will do some flees for the auction.
A tribe of Zulus ready to be sent to the North of England.....
Excuse pic quality as my PC doesn't recognize my camera for some reason so these were taken with phone camera.
Got my finger out and tied my flees for the swap.
Size 16 hi-viz emergers with a flexi-floss body:
[attachimg=1]
[attachimg=2]
Also some big beasties for the auction:
[attachimg=3]
Can you PM me your address please Steve.
cheers
Paul
Those big beasties look enticing, Paul :8)
Norm
They look great Paul. I haven't even decided what to tie let alone find the time to skive off from my endless hoosey chores to tie them! :x
cheers guys,
the beasties are BIG- size 6 longshank
Still caught loads of bandies on them this season though, the greediness of wee wild trout never ceases to amaze :D
Nice looking fly Steve. What's the body material?
Flies (palewatery iwi) are done. I'll send them next week when there's no postal strike on.
Steve mine are all parcelled up and will post oot after the post goes back to normal ..
cheers Colin
Will post on Saturday then.
Hi Steve
Can you PM me the address to send the flies please.

they are just brilliant
Steve
Glad they made it.
Cheers, Hans
If I could ever get to a post office mine would be with you as well - thye are sat envoloped up waiting to go and have been for the past two weeks. Work doesn't half get in the way of life....
Norm
QuoteAnother 2 sets in todays post
Aweman and Superscot
thanks lads these are great
Steve
Steve mind add
cheers
I'll have a fiver on me being last... any takers? :P
Change of fly for me. I found that I have plenty of elk hair caddis in my stock box, so a dozen will be in the post tomorrow - it saves me tying, which I loathe. :crap
Alex
Quote from: Steve on October 29, 2009, 08:58:16 PM
Alex its 15
sorry to say
Steve
Aaagh. Please god help me find another three :)
Alex
Well that's my flies done. The early evening ones are ok, but then the red wine starts to kick in. If you're lucky you'll recieve a one or two glass fly and if you're unlucky four or five... hic. Will post tomorrow so it's anyone's guess when they'll arrive. :?
Didn't get out to post the flies on Saturday, but they're in the post today! Now no cheating Steve, in fairness you'll need to select your fly using the lucky dip method... just don't impale yourself in the process!
Edit: Forgot to say, my fly's a palmer verson of a teal, blue and silver - a good fly for me on bright days, especially towards the end of the season for some reason. :)
Steve flies posted today recorded delivery. A wee hot arsed deer hair Sedge. :D
Nope, not a Bruiser. I'll post a pic when I get a minute.
Near enough Breac. Mine is dressed lighter without the badger hackle and has an oval silver rib over a silver tinsel body, just like the normal TB&S. Can't put a pic up yet though cos I've lost the cable for my camera!
Steve,
Flies sent however I've just noticed one lying on my fly tying desk (oh flip). If there are only 14 please let me know.
Malcolm
Hi Steve,
Got the swap flees tied up early on but then got distracted when doing some back-end Hebridean patterns for the auction - sorry. :(
Am now back at the tying desk though so should get the lot away in the post to you this week. :)
Cheers,
Ian
Quotejust to let everyone know what I am planning
its a slideshow of every fly in all 3 swaps,
Looking forward to that.
Finally got round to posting mine this morning...
Norm
That is a beautiful fly.
cheers
Paul
That Jackdaw spider is a cracker. Looks a great fly to have on the bob with a hopper on the tail. Looking forward to trying it out.
15 "Palewatery iwi's" will be in the post within the hour.
Just 3 flees to go and then the post tomorrow. Thank F. Looking forward to seeing all the others.
Paul
Steve Cheers for keeping it quiet that they are all getting a PETER ROSS among there package !
The one and only loch/river flee that produces results !
oops
Ah man I just wheeched the fly tying kit out of the cupboard and logged on here for the first time in a while and I've missed a fly swap. Totally gutted.
Hope it's a good one.
Shame you missed this one NF... Thankfully I got in on time! :D It's like an extra wee Christmas present from my forumites... all I need to do is get them something too. AND it's a prezzy I actually want!
Cannae wait... Santas coming! :D
Flies arrived today- beautiful.
Thanks to all, but Steve in particular
Just in from work and flies waiting when I got in. Some really nice flies there.
Thanks for arranging this Steve.
George
(previously Clansman)
Nae flees for me. Probably the morra now.
My flies arrived :D
Norm
mine arrived today ..........A huge thanks to Steve for the time and effort and to all how took part
cheers
Mine arrived today. Thanks to all who took part .especially Steve for organizing everything.
No sign of mine yet.
I got all excited this morning when I came home from taking one of my wee one's to her hockey game to find a parcel with my name on it. It was just some tungsten beads I'd ordered. So either my postie's a fly fisher or it'll be Monday now!
Mine arrived this morning. A big thanks to Steve for a monumental effort :applause and to all who took part.
Alex
Would you believe! There I was looking through the usual rainforest of junk mail on my junk mail shelf when I came across the bloody swap flies. Someone (probably one of my kids) had opened the envelope, then left the poly bag complete with flies in amongst the junk. So don't know when they arrived - could have been ages ago! Some really nice flies there guys, thanks. :D
Mine still haven't arrived :(
Mind you, I'm still waiting for last year's too. I reckon there's a crooked fishing postie in my local sorting office.
Hopefully they'll turn up over the next few days.
Paul
I participated in a fly swap organised through my club's forum about a year ago and not one fly has dropped through my letter box as a result. I'm beginning to think they're not coming! :x
Hope you get your flies soon Paul.
Mine arrived today well done to all that took part, big thanks to Steve for the effort he puts into this . :applause :applause
Mine arrived yesterday morning but I've been too ill :sick; with some sort of lurgy to investigate till today!
Looks brilliant, so many things for me to try that I probably wouldn't normally have fished and I've marvelling at some and thinking "I have to learn how to tie that." Thanks to all for cheering up a miserable few days.
Nah - I don't really live up to my name, to be honest
My old man told me and my brother about guddling when he had us out for a walk one day as bairns. I don't think we really believed him until he, seemingly magically, scooped a troot oot of the Burn of Lunklet. We were pretty impressed and spent the next while up to our oxters trying to do the same but without success - no patience and too much noise, I'd imagine. :)
I've tried again a few times since but only once managed it, probably over 20 years ago. Maybe it's something I should set on to achieve next year.
Still nothing arrived to me, hopefully they will show up on monday.
well done steve for organising the swaps, must be a nightmare parting with all thet flies.
