Here are my first few attempts at tying detached bodied flies. I was watching the Oliver Edwards dvd on how to tye them I had a go but he recommends power silk as the body doesn't slip off the needle easy. I got watching a Davie McPhail video on You Tube and found his method although similar a bit more simple and decided to follow his instructions, well roughly. Here are my offerings...........

The foam I used is called plastazote. Its flat but once I had made the body I rolled it firmly a few times on the desk to give it an appearance of being slightly rounded. I roughly followed this Davie McPhail vid.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yxnywjf0GdQ&feature=related
Not to the letter as I didn't include tail fibres. I found it a useful guide. Gonna try the detached crane fly next.
