It says on the website they accept cards so I thought you would be able to buy online by contacting them.

No, they only accept in person sales.

Not only have they seen interest in from foreign markets they have also seen interest from collectors and investors. The distillery can't produce enough to keep up with demand these days.

Even if you visit the shop bottles may not be available for sale. They deliberately put them on the shelves at different times of day to prevent queues developing at opening time too.

The problem is compounded by locals buying up stock and flipping for a profit too....

A bit of a long shot but do any of you know where I can get Springbank 10 for a reasonable price? I just can't seem to find it anywhere and when I do it's ridiculously over priced.

I have a local wine merchant that receives a quarterly allowance of Springbank, Hazelburn and Longrow.

It goes out on the shelves and they email their customer list hen it's available. I live around 7 minutes drive away. If I notice the email, put my shoes on and speed towards the shop I'll be able to pick up a bottle. But it's strictly one per customer for the 10, 15, 18 and Cask Strength. The 21 is occasionally available.

They also host regular tastings. If you attend a tasting you are given the right to enter a lottery. It's free to enter and if your number comes up you're given the right to buy  a bottle. I scored an 18 a few months ago that way.

It's a lot of hassle eh?

Yea it seems Springbank is one of few distilleries doing it right. I think more are taking note and are following the trend. I've got a bottle of cambeltown loch but would love to taste the original 10 year old.

We tried Campbeltown Loch at the tasting. I was quite impressed with it. I thought it was very good for a blend.

And no problem, I'll let you know if I can get one.

I did ask the lady who led the tasting who'd travelled from Campbeltown if they still sell casks to private individuals. I've never been told to 'go forth and multiply' so politely and diplomatically in my entire life!

I could imagine the returns on those casks being astronomic of private sales did happen.

 I've been really impressed with Penderyn lately. They have just opened another distillery about 1/2 a mile from the house. The ironically thing is the whisky is cheaper on Amazon rather than the distillery shop. The standard Madeira bottle at 46% natural colour and non chill filtered is around £37.

You can find a lot of cheap whisky on Amazon at certain times. It's well worth looking out for the deals.

Springbank casks have made 6 figures plus in recent years.

I'm off to a see friends this evening. Tonight it won't be Scotch but different bourbons!

It's a shame we don't get much a selection of bourbons over here. It seems the yanks keep the best for them selves. With such a big internal market they have no need to sell them abroad. I often use wild turkey 101 as my cocktail whisky I think it's pretty good value for money.

I am pretty much into bourbons more than malts these days but the good ones are in short supply - and are expensive! I lucked into a real find at a deli in Dornoch a few months ago which was selling a wide range of Blantons at a massive discount to other suppliers. But after I made a decent hole in their stock they have put their prices up considerably .
House of Malt in Carlisle is usually a good source of bourbons but when I called in a month ago they were saying that they were finding it hard to get stock and what they can get sells as soon as it appears on their website.

I very much enjoyed at Christmas helping my son empty his bottle of 1993 Glendronach. Very very nice. He just sent me this picture from the dutyfree at Edinburgh. No more of that for us!

Errrrr, honestly there's a decent selection of bourbon in the UK. Infact some bottles can be easier here to obtain than in some US states believe it or not.

We buy a lot from this place. I'll be taking a bottle of Michter's Rye with me tonight from there.

Trawl through the page and you'll find a lot of good stuff. The owners James and Frankie really know their stuff and will ship at sensible prices too.
