I have this book and for anyone looking for the recipe for an old fly then I would recommend it. He also tells a little about how he uses some of the flies and at what time of year to use them. There are dries, wets, lures, salmon and sea trout flies, something for everyone

Bloody hell, I remember that book advertised in the T+S back in the 60s!

That would be difficult. It wasn't printed till 1979 It was originally four books, "Fifty Popular Flies" 1962, 1964, 1969 and 1973, all of which I used to have, then after his death in 1975 they put them all together in one volume called "Two Hundred Popular Flies", this one. Original price ?5.95, I got mine for ?2 when the local library withdrew it from the shelves and sold it in the book sale

Yep, A first class book for traditional man as my self & well worth getting. Sandy whilst indeed you are right about publishing dates the flies were first featured in Trout & Salmon mag well before the first edition of Popular Flies. As an incidental Mr Stewart taught me to tie flies when I was a wee boy
