I have two copies of this book, 1973 and 1977. The '73 one is well thumbed and has more paper and fly tying floss stuck in marking flies than any other book I have :) Anybody who is interested in reading the history and tying some of the old patterns wont go wrong with this book. There is a 1965 copy on ebay, it doesn't have the appendix from Overfield and Veniard, but the only one worth having is the Veniard one as it shows the old and new hook sizes, the Overfield one is new patterns that are in a lot of the modern books, so you aren't missing much :)

I love the old books too breac. I have Fly Fishing for Salmon by Richard Waddington, 1st edition dated 1951. How to Dress Salmon Flies by T.E.Pryce-Tannatt 2nd edition dated 1948, the 1st was 1914. I also have The Fisherman's Vade Mecum by G.W.Maunsell, mine is a 1972 reprint of the fourth edition, it was first published in 1933. It is a great 'go to' book covering Trout fishing, all methods, Salmon again all methods, Sea Trout. How to strike, play and land. Casting and Spinning. Pike fishing. Then sections on Weather, Barometer, Water, Light. Knots and splicing. Hooks. It goes into great detail in a 'how to' manner, great book for learning new techniques. I also have Border Angling by W.H.Lawrie, not sure of the date for this one but the price is in shillings and pence :) A great wee book along the lines of Reid's Clyde book, with flies and tyings for nymphs, dries, wets and spiders, plus sections on fishing them and trips to Tweed. I have others but these are the oldest.

There is another copy of the Dictionary on ebay, this is the 1977 one with the Overfield addition.

If I am looking for a book I usually just punch it into Google and see what comes up. Usually they are way over my price range so I end up looking on Ebay to see if I can come up with something cheaper :)
